Dramatic one-run win for West indies in 1st T20 against India

India lost the first T-20 against West Indies

India lost to West Indies by just one run in the first T20 Match on Saturday. India fell short of just one run behind the mammoth 245/1 scored by West indies in 20 overs at the first-ever T20 cricket match played in the US.

Dwayne Bravo, who bowled the last over for W.Indies, snatched the victory from India as Mahedra Singh Dhoni’s tossed his slow bowl safely into the hands of Samuels.

India was on 244 then , just one run short of a draw, destroying India’s hopes of a super over. Windies now leads the two-part series 1-0.

Earlier in the day, India won the toss and decided to bowl first. w.Indies openers, J Charles and E Lewis gave their side a good start with a strong 126 run partnership. The duo drove Indian bowlers over the boundary many times, giving their side a comfortable lead in the beginning itself.

Lewis fell to Sami at the end of power-pack batting display of nine 6’s and five 4’s. E Lewis was declared the man of the match. Soon W. Indies lost wickets in quick succession but managed to score their record-ever 244/6.

India lost Rahane(7) early in the match. But RG Sharma and Virat Kohli seemed to turn the tide for India with a good start. But, Bravo gave a big blow to India by removing Kohli when he was batting on 16.

KL Rahul and captain MS Dhoni took India back to the game. In the final three overs India needed only 33 runs. It scored 9 runs in 18th over and 16 in 19th and required only 8 runs in the final over.

The match seemed like an easy finish for Dhoni and Rahul until Bravo spoled the macth for India with a clean and scheming spell.

The score of 240 is India’s highest ever total in T20 matches. Rahul remained not out on 114, his career best in T20 and the only 3rd century scored by an Indian in T20.
