It prevents eye diseases like macular degeneration which is a condition that causes progressive damage to the retina, leading to loss of sight. Vegetables such as kale, spinach, collard greens and dark green lettuce must be on the list since they contain lutein and zeaxanthin which are two important nutrients that contain antioxidant functions in the body, preventing cell damages.  The nutrient lutein, acts like natural sunglasses that would protect the retina from damage.

It is indeed a known fact that carrots are extremely healthy for our eyes and promote eye sight too. It includes beta-carotene which is a type of Vitamin A that makes these foods add orange hue. It helps your retina and the rest of the parts of eye to perform well.

Vitamin C helps in reducing the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration that will occur late in life. It helps in the improvement of your eye tissues and vitamin C helps to regenerate other important antioxidants like vitamin E.

One cup of nutrient-dense spinach is loaded with 20.4 mg of lutein and zeaxanthin. Consuming greens in cooked form helps your body absorb lutein easily. It can lower your risk of eye problems.

Almonds, raisins and figs are eye savers. It is very healthy to eat them on an empty stomach in the morning. The high content of fiber and vitamins help to speed up the digestive processes and get rid of toxins in the body by helping in eliminating eye related problems.
