By now Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some his ministers have come to be known for making factual gaffes every-now-and-then. So it should come as little surprise when freshly-appointed Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar erroneously said India’s first Prime Minister PM Jawaharlal Nehru and Home Minister Sardar Patel were hanged.
Javadekar made the comments while addressing a public meeting in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhindwara. “The fight for independence that began in 1857 ended 90 years later when we threw the British out. We salute freedom fighters…. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Pandit (Jawahar Lal Nehru), Bhagat Singh and Rajguru…all those who were hanged.”

Paying tribute to the freedom fighters of the country during the Tiranga Yatra launched to mark India’s 70th Independence Day, Javadekar in his rousing speech clubbed Nehru, Patel and Bose in the same bracket as Bhagat Singh and Raj Guru.
