Rohith Vemula wasn't a Dalit: Panel
The one-man judicial panel formed to probe into the suicide of University of Hyderabad scholar Rohith Vemula has submitted its report to the UGC
An investigation committee that looked into the suicide of University of Hyderabad scholar Rohith Vemula has concluded that he was not a Dalit as he didn’t belong to the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, 'Indian Express' has reported.
According to reports, the one-man judicial commission comprising of former Allahabad High Court judge A K Roopanwal, that was set up by then HRD Minister Smriti Irani to look into the circumstances leading to the death of Vemula’s suicide, has submitted its report to the UGC.
The suicide by Vemula had triggered a huge political storm with opposition parties launching a massive attack on the Union Government over the issue. Roopanwal’s report was expected on August 1.
