UFC fight night 92: Yair Rodriguez takes down Alex Caceres

Yair Rodriguez beat Alex Caceres by in the main event of UFC Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday.

The featherweight bout was won by Rodriguez by split decision (46-49, 48-47, 48-47). The fight was the first UFC event in the state of Utah and the fans went beserk.

The fight that lasted for 5 rounds was filled with high-risk attacks but neither fighter really had to bear the brunt because they did not come in contact with them. However , Rodriguez managed quite a few unexpected moves. He kept the counter techniques from Caceres low by firing a series of off-strikes. In the last rounds, Caceres managed two takedowns and landed few punches on Rodriguez, but the fight had been won by Rodriguez. On a night short on ultra competitive fights, the main event was deserving of Fight of the Night honors.

Rodriguez (8-1) is the former The Ultimate Fighter Latin America winner and has not lost under the UFC banner. He is mixed martial artist, Taekwondo black belt and a budding star in the Mexican market.

Caceres (12-9, 1 NC) won two fights in a row coming in, including a dominant unanimous decision over Cole Miller at UFC 199 in June.

In the co-main event, Dennis Bermudez (16-5) defeated Rony Jason (14-6, 1 NC ) by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-27). In the first round, Bermudez gave Jason a cut in the forehead and took him down a couple of times. But Jason came out strong in the third round and managed a rear-naked choke on Bermudez. But Bermudez somehow managed to come over the top and pound on Jason.

With this, Bermudez (16-5) has now won two straight after dropping a pair in a row to Ricardo Lamas and Jeremy Stephens .Jason was fighting after a year-long drug suspension. He was tested positive for drugs test during his fight with Damon Jackson in May 2015. The bout had been declared a no contest.
