Veteran Tamil, Telugu actress Jyothilakshmi dies at 63

Popular actress Jyothilakshmi who acted predominantly in Telugu and Tamil films passed away at the age of 63.

Yesteryear Tamil-Telugu popular actress Jyothilakshmi who made her debut through TR Ramanna’s ‘Periya Idathu Penn,’ passed away yesterday night at her own residence in Chennai. She was sixty three (63) years old and had been ill for some time. She had been suffering from blood cancer, said sources.

Jyothilakshmi has acted in over three hundred films in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. She was seen in Hindi films too.

Some of her notable films are: ‘Pilla? Piduga?,’ ‘Gandharvya Kanya,’ ‘Sita Ramulu’ and ‘Donga Ramudu & Party’ in Telugu, ‘Pistolwali’ in Hindi, ‘Murappennu,’ ‘Inspector’ and ‘Manushyamrigam’ in Malayalam and ‘Kulla Agent 000,’ ‘Bangalore Mail’ and ‘Raktha kanneeru’ in Kannada.

Jyothilakshmi was a trained dancer too and acted in a few item number songs. She was not much seen in films after her marriage. But she continued acting in few television shows. It seems that her popularity started declining in the early 1980’s after her sister Jayamalini entered into the film industry.

In 2015 director Puri Jagannadh had released a film named ‘Jyothilakshmi’ and paparazzi’s believed that it was based on her life. But later lead actress of the movie,Charmy Kaur revealed that the movie is not a biopic.

Next month the actress was supposed to start shooting for Silambarasan and Simbu’s forthcoming movie “Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan.”

Her last rites will be performed on Today at the Kannammapettai cremation grounds in Chennai.
