Australia beat Sri Lanka in 2nd T20 to clinch series and ruin Dilshan’s farewell match
Thanks to a complete all-around performance with both bat and ball, Australia beat Sri Lanka by four wickets in the 2nd T20 International to claim the series 2:0 at R. Premadasa stadium in Colombo.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. However, the host managed to post only a modest total 128-9 in 20 overs. Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was playing his last international T20 got out for one.
Dhananjaya de Silva was the only highlight of Sri Lanka’s batting line-up that looked shaky against Australia’s disciplined bowling attack. He scored 62 off 50 balls to give his side a fighting chance. James Faulkner and Adam Zampa claimed three wickets each for Australia.
Australia in reply started strongly. At one point they were 93 with no loss thanks to opener Glenn Maxwell’s blistering knock of 29-ball 66. Just after his dismissal in the ninth over, the team from down under, lost five more wickets in quick succession to add an interesting twist to the match.
Travis Head managed to keep a cool head in the final moments of the game to finish the match with a six.
