Bette Midler’s ‘Hello, Dolly’ Makes $9M from First Day Sales

Producers of the Broadway show said, "The combination of this show and Bette Midler has proven irresistible to theatergoers," after the success of the show that broke all broad way records on its first show itself

‘Hello, Dolly! an upcoming revival by Bette Midler earned more than $9 million through sale of tickets on the first day itself. It broke all the existing Broadway records.

This hilarious show which began its previews managed to collect through ticket sales more than $9 Million on its first day on sale. Tickets went on sale Saturday for the spring show.

A leading daily has quoted Schubert Organization chairman Philip J. Smith and Schubert president Robert E. Wankel as saying in a statement that, “We are thrilled with the tremendous response from Hello, Dolly! ticket-buyers.” He also stated that, “The combination of this show and Bette Midler has proven irresistible to theatergoers.”

There is a rumour buzz that with this she might become one of Broadway’s highest paid actors as and when the show opens this spring, receiving a weekly pay – cheque of $150,000 . Apart from this she is also entitled to receive a percentage of the box office and merchandising revenues, said sources.

In the show ‘Hello, Dolly!, David Hyde Pierce would be seen as her co – star. The top non-premium Telecharge ticket price for the show is $189. The show’s opening night is set for April 20.
