Chikungunya claims six lives, affects over 1,000 people in Delhi
Delhi has been reeling under mosquito borne-diseases with at least 1,158 cases of dengue reported and nearly 390 of them being recorded in the first ten days of September.
Chikungunya cases has also sharply risen to over 1,000 this season, marking a jump of nearly 90 per cent from its count last week.
The death toll from the vector-borne disease, Chikungunya, mounted to six in the national capital with the death of an 80-year-old man from Ghaziabad in Delhi on Tuesday.
Mahendra Singh, the second person from Ghaziabad, died of chikungunya on Tuesday afternoon at Apollo Hospital in Jasolla, South Delhi.
Singh was diagnosed positive for chikungunya through RT-PCR test and died of multi-organ failure triggered by complications from the disease.
A 75-year-old Prakash Kalra of Mathura died last evening at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Three three other persons succumbed to the disease at the same hospital on Monday.
