Delhi’s Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who is currently in Findland, has been told by Lt Governor Najeeb Jung to return to Delhi immediately in view of the chikungunya and dengue outbreak in the capital.
“The deputy CM has been asked to come back to Delhi immediately as the city is witnessing spurt in dengue and chikungunya cases,” PTI quoted as people familiar with the matter as saying.
Delhi government officials, however, said the Deputy CM’s office had not received any communication from the LG’s office.
“We were told that neither the Deputy Chief Minister nor the Indian Embassy in Helsinki had received any order or communication from the Lt Governor’s office, asking him to come back,” sources said according to Indian Express.
The Deputy CM, who also hold the Education portfolio, along with his officers are in Finland to study the education system of that country.
The sources said, besides Sisodia, all officers including Education Secretary, had been directed to return to Delhi immediately.
On Friday, Sisodia had tweeted that he was abroad for an educational tour and it was unfair to target him. On Friday, photographs of Sisodia having ice cream and getting photographs clicked in Finland surfaced in Delhi, drawing sharp reactions from the opposition.
The tweet came after opposition parties had earlier claimed that the minister was “holidaying” in Finland while the capital was facing a health crisis.
