Delhi Police arrests Somnath Bharti over AIIMS assault case
AIIMS chief of security had earlier filed a petition accusing Bharti and his 27 supporters for rioting outside the hospital
In yet another blow to the already battered image of the AAP, the Delhi Police has arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator Somnath Bharti for allegedly assaulting security guards of the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
AIIMS chief of security had earlier filed a petition accusing Bharti and his 27 supporters for rioting outside the hospital during an anti-encroachment demolition exercise.
The complaint stated that the AAP MLA provoked his supporters to damage the fence of the hospital with a JCB in order to give access to unauthorised persons inside AIIMS property.
AIIMS security official also complained that six security personnel were injured while trying to intervene and stop Bharti and his supporters.
However, the former Delhi Minister denied the allegations earlier, saying AIIMS is lying over the issue.
Bharti earlier tweeted: “Wherever common man will be troubled, I will go. The allegation that residents dismantled the wall is a blatant lie. I will fight in court."
Bharti is currently out on bail in a case of domestic violence filed by his wife.
The latest detention of the Aam Aadmi Party leader follows the arrest of another AAP MLA from Okhla constituency, Amanatullah Khan, yesterday for allegedly harassing a woman relative.
