The insensitive face of Delhi once again came to the fore on Tuesday when a 21-year-old woman was stabbed by a stalker over 20 times in broad daylight in North Delhi’s Burari area.
She was stabbed continuously for over 20 times by a man. The man, CCTV footage showed, kept stabbing the girl till she stopped moving. After that, the man kicked her, then start stabbing again.
According to a report in NDTV, the alleged killer, Surender Singh, has been arrested. The victim was identified as Karuna, who works as a teacher.
Her family, the report said, had complained to the police about five months ago that she was being harassed and stalked by Singh, a 34-year-old neighbour in the middle of a divorce.
“The woman was stabbed publicly in the Burari area at 9 am by the accused, named Surender Singh, 34, who was known to her. No one came to her rescue,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Madhur Verma told reporters.
“He was later chased by the public and beaten up and handed over to police,” the officer added.
