India recalls ‘Mission Clean’ Ahead of ‘Gandhi-Jayanti’
Let us not expect Government to bring the change solely. Let us be a part of the change. Let us plant more trees because that not only enhances the beauty, but also help in maintaining the ecological order. let us help in building more and more toilets. Let Us Change and Improve the image of Our Country. Make it Cleaner and Dignified.
“Swachh Bharat mission is beyond politics. It is inspired by patriotism and not politics. Mahatma Gandhi dreamt of an India which was not only free but also clean and developed. He secured freedom for Mother India. Now it is our duty to serve Mother India by keeping the country neat and clean. Everybody before us has worked for it.Who was successful, who was not. Let us not get into who has done it, who has not. We should work responsibly. Cleaning up the country cannot be the sole responsibility of sanitation workers. Do citizens have no role in this? We have to change this mind-set. India should learn from foreign countries, where people are disciplined and do not litter in public places.”
These were Prime Minister Narendra Modi's words while he launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) two years ago on Gandhi Jayanti.
As India nears completion of two years of launching its Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and gears up for its celebrations. A big occasion indeed, big enough to fascinate celebrities even tagging their names with the campaign. Let us have a sneak peek into the preparations and take a look into what changed and what still remains unchanged through these two years.
Bollywood actors, sportspersons, campaigners - all seem to be gearing up for the big day.
An occasion, and a chance to make the world know, appreciate and honour their efforts about how socially active they are and the awareness they spread… their dates are being checked and blocked for the occasion!! Posters and banners are being made and suddenly, there is a boost to the sale of ‘cleaning tools'. Brooms seem to be sweeping the market. New ‘comfortable’ brooms are being purchased for celebrities so that fresh pictures could be clicked and updated on their profiles.
Software designers are busy constructing and developing new stickers and images with fresh slogans to circulate them on social media. All preparations are going on in a full swing….!! Like last year, schools, hospitals, public and government institutes are reminded of doing extra shifts to yet again take the ‘sweeping tools’ in their hands…!!
We, Indians, have truly globalised in terms of celebrating days… PERIOD!! …. On a serious note, …. we need to understand that the day is not about celebrating the day itself… but, follow it as a mission, a vision, a thought, a dream that WE ALL MUST FULFILL collectively….!!
We have to understand that when foreigners visit India, the first impression they get is of dirty roads and scattered garbage. They find it weird, people spitting and urinating openly in public places. India has always been a tourist attraction destination. In September and October, tourists prefer visiting India because of its pleasant weather conditions these months. but, looking at the mosquito menace lately, tourism too has suffered.
Mosquito-borne diseases claimed so many lives yet again in 2016. All these diseases spread because of the constant menace of waterlogging. Even after several alerts and warnings prior to monsoon, these weren’t regarded and attended. Potholes remained open... garbage kept piling up... and, water kept logging… and, hence, mosquitoes kept breeding… resulting in dengue, chikungunya and malaria spreading like epidemic….!!
We need to understand that we have to keep ourselves clean for our own sake, our own dignity and pride and not for show off.
Clean India Mission anniversary should not be considered as just another day to celebrate…!! It is a reminder of the vision, a dream and a challenge… just like a freedom struggle…!! It is a freedom struggle against our age old habits……!!
We have to free ourselves from our age old habits of throwing anything anywhere… spitting anywhere…. urinating and defecating anywhere…!! There is nothing wrong in learning certain good habits from others let us try to learn the way Western countries keep their public places clean…. Let us change ourselves too. Let us make ourselves clean and follow hygiene. Let us not depend solely upon a sweeper or a scavenger to clean our dirt, Let us make sure to try not to litter,
Let us not expect the government to bring the change solely. Let us be a part of the change. Let us plant more trees because that not only enhances the beauty, but also help in maintaining the ecological order let us help in building more and more toilets Let us change and improve the image of our country. Make it cleaner and dignified.
Now, it is up to us if we are going to remain a slave to our dirty habits or fight and win over our own vices ...!! We need to spread the awareness in every nook and corner of towns and villages….!! Let us start from today….!!
The way we clean our home, we have to think about the cleanliness of all the public places too. Strict fines should be levied upon those found lapsing…. Without pre alerts and warnings, all pot holes should be covered to prevent waterlogging.
Let us hope, by the time India reaches third anniversary of Clean India Mission, we are able to find ourselves changed positively for the betterment of our country… It was Gandhiji’s Vision and Mission… Let us all collectively make it possible and successful...!! It will be our best homage to our Father of the Nation…!! Till then… Happy Clean India Mission… Happy Gandhi Jayanti…. Jai Hind...!!
