Kerala actor Sreejith Ravi arrested under POCSO for alleged ‘flashing’ incident
Palakkad: Sreejith Ravi, a young Malayalam actor and son of the veteran cine trouper T G Ravi has been arrested by the Kerala police after a group of 14 school girls alleged that he flashed at them sitting in his car and tried to take their photo with his mobile.
There were reports that a young man sitting in a car parked near the Pathirippala ( a small town in the Palakkad district) market flashed a group of school girls on 27th of last month. The girls, who are students of a prominent school in Pathirippala had complained that the man had shown them indecent gestures also.
The girls noted down the number of the car and handed it over to the school principal. Police later found that Mr Ravi is the owner of the car and booked him under IPC section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of women) and POCSO ( The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) act. He was arrested and has been produced in front of the magistrate post medical examination.
The parents of the girls alleged that some of the police officials threatened the girls to withdraw the case. There were allegations that one of the girls tried to commit suicide after a police officer called two of them to the police station for enquiry. But the Childline authorities denied the allegations of the suicide attempt. “We had a talk with all the fourteen school girls. The allegation that one of them tried to commit suicide is a false one,” told the coordinator of Childline.
But the actor denied the allegations and claimed that the girls might have wrongly noted down the number of the car. He also stated that the girls did not mention his name in the complaint as they could have easily recognise him due to his celebrity status.
However, the girls stand by their allegations and identified the actor after some photos were shown by the police.
