The Indian Army today confirmed it carried out swift “surgical strikes” on terror launchpads in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in response to the terrorist attack in Uri, earlier this month, that killed 18 of its soldiers. According to the Army, the strikes were carried out to prevent Pakistani terrorists “who had positioned themselves at launch pads with the aim to carry out strikes in Jammu and Kashmir”.
While briefing the media, DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said, Pakistan was informed – in keeping with protocol – of the cross-border strike. Media reports have claimed 30-45 terrorists have been neutralized by the Army in PoK territory without suffering any casualties. The details of the strike are still unclear.
