Navjot Singh Sidhu, wife Kaur formally quit BJP
The development comes days after Sidhu launched his own party Awaaz-e-Punjab
Cricketer-turned politician Navjot Singh Sidhu and his wife Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Wednesday formally resigned from their BJP membership.
The development comes days after Sidhu launched his own party, the Awaaz-e-Punjab, on September 8. He had resigned from the Rajya Sahba in July this year.
The former cricketer was elected to the Lok Sabha from Amritsar twice between 2004 and 2014. Navjot Kaur, Sidhu's wife, was elected to the State Assembly in 2012 from Amritsar as a BJP candidate.
Putting aside all speculations of joining Arvind Kejriwal’s Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Sidhu had earlier announced to float the new party, Aawaz-e-Punjab.
Addressing media during the launch function, Sidhu had said his dramatic resignation from the Rajya Sabha in July had nothing to do with Kejriwal, quashing months of speculation about him joining the AAP after quitting BJP.
