NCW summons AAP leader Ashutosh for defending rape accused Sandeeep Kumar
Aam Aadmi Party leader Ashutosh has reacted strongly to the summon issued to him by National Commission for Women (NCW) for defending suspended party leader Sandeep Kumar, who is at the centre of a sex-tape scandal, NDTV has reported.
Ashutosh took to Twitter to defend himself; “Should I be hanged for writing a column,” he tweeted, adding “Is India turning into a fascist state?” He also accused NCW chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam of being an active member of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party at the Centre.
On Monday Ashutosh was summoned by NCW for writing an opinion piece on NDTV that defended rape accused Sandeep Kumar saying it was a “consensual” act and that he had done no wrong. The Congress and the BJP say that Ashutosh has insulted Mahatma Gandhi by referring to him in the same breath as a man who is now accused of rape.
In his blog on NDTV website Ashutosh had written, “This video encompasses pictures of a man and woman indulging in a sexual act. The video clearly establishes that both individuals knew each other and consented to sex in a private space away from the public glare. The question then is that if two consenting adults are physically involved with each other, is it a crime?”
“Ashutosh’s blog has an objectifying tone against women of the country. The tone of the blog is extremely demeaning towards women,” Lalitha Kumaramangalam was quoted as saying by CNN-IBN.
Both Congress and BJP have also critised Ashutosh for his post, wherein he he allegedly compared rape accused Sandeep Kumar to Mahatma Gandhi and Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru.
