Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday denied that there is an ongoing rift between his family members, and among the leaders of the Samajwadi party.
Addressing media persons, Akhilesh said: “We are united, there is no rift in Samajwadi party.”
Akhilesh’s remarks came a day after he declared that he would return portfolios to his uncle but should have a say in ticket distribution.
He also congratulated Shivpal on his appointment as Samajwadi Party’s state president.
“I had tea with my ‘chacha’ and not party’s state chief,” Akhilesh said, indicating that there is no ongoing power struggle between the two.
He added that that whatever his father, Mulayam Singh Yadav, has planned for the party, will be duly implemented. “No one can go against the decision of Netaji,” Akhilesh maintained.
Akhilesh further asked his supporters to stop agitation. “Let’s strengthen the party to win the elections. Whosoever has youth by his side, wins,” Akhilesh said.
Earlier in the day, supporters of the Chief Minister had converged at the party’s headquarters in Lucknow demanding that party’s state chief’s post be restored to him.
When his supporters were agitating outside the party headquarters, Akhilesh had sent a message asking them to leave the street and gather at his official residence.
