Park Street gangrape: Main accused Kader Khan arrested in Delhi
Police has also arrested another person named Ali, who was accompanying Khan while he was hiding in Delhi
After more than three years, the prime accused in the Park Street gangrape of Suzette Jordan, Kader Khan, has been arrested in New Delhi on Friday by a special team of the Kolkata Police.
Jordan was gang-raped by five men men in a moving car after they offered her lift to her house from a night club situated at famous Park Street in Kolkata on February 5, 2012.
The arrested, Khan, is one of the five accused in the gangrape of Jordan, who later died of encephalitis in March 2015.
According to a report in DNA, the police have also arrested another person named Ali, besides Khan, who was accompanying Khan while he was hiding in Delhi.
The two will be produced before a local court and will be brought to Kolkata on transit remand.
"We had specific inputs that Kader along with his close aid, Ali had put up at their relative's house in Ghaziabad. A joint team comprising Delhi Police and Kolkata Police's members arrested him. He is being brought to Kolkata and will be produced before the court here," said a senior official of Kolkata Police.
In the trial of case, which was ended in December 2015, Naser Khan, Ruman Khan and Sumit Bajaj were held guilty. The court sentenced them to 10 years in jail. The three have already spent four years in jail of the 10 years.
The victim could not see justice delivered to her following her death in the same year due to meningitis.
In the intervening night of February 20, 2012, Suzette Jordan, who decided to reveal her identity after the incident, was raped in a moving car on Park Street. Later, she fought for her rights and stood next to other rape victims and survivors. She took up anti-rape campaigns and emerged as a women's rights activist.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, courting controversy, had termed the incident as 'sajano ghotona', meaning that the incident was staged.
