The Prime Minister watched the goings-on of the surgical strikes by Armed Forces along with Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and the chiefs of Armed Forces of India in the war-room
Prime minister,

Confused voices, blatant denial of facts along with contradictory statements from different sources helming the unstable country followed India’s surgical strikes that targeted five terror camps on Pakistan soil.  Ever since India gave a befitting reply for the Uri terror attack, verbal volleys from across the border have grown in pitch. Sources in North Block revealed how the situation in the ‘war room’, at that moment occupied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parikkar, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, along with the three chiefs of the Armed Forces of India, was akin to Operation Neptune Spear – or Operation Geronimo, as it was popularly known.

Operation Neptune Spear, or  Operation Geronimo, was the May 2011 operation that resulted in the death of most wanted global terrorist Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad, Pakistan. In an unprecedented move and a strong reply to Pakistan’s terror designs, India struck with a covert military operation taking out identified terror camps across the border and issued a public statement as well. To avenge Uri attack, the Indian Army on Thursday claimed that they carried out surgical strike across the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday night to discourage Pakistani terrorists who had “positioned themselves at launch pads with the aim to carry out strikes in Jammu and Kashmir and other metros”.

“India conducted surgical strikes last night across the LoC to safeguard our nation,” the Defence Ministry said on Thursday. “Significant casualties have been caused to terrorists and those trying to shield them. We don’t have a plan to further conduct such strikes. India has spoken to Pakistan,” DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said.

“There were launch pads at the LoC where terrorists were present waiting to infiltrate the nation and attack areas in Kashmir and metros across the country,” the DGMO said.

Media reports said India had informed the United States before carrying out the operations. Security forces have also cancelled all the leaves, which implies that India has started preparation for retaliation from Pakistan.

A surgical strike is “a calculated maneuver to ensure you deliver maximum damage which gives a big surprise to your adversary,” explained former air chief Fali Major, praising last night’s operation for its execution.

The strikes that came soon after the recent Uri attack is first major military action taken by Narendra Modi’s government. It may be mentioned that 18 soldiers were killed in the recent terror attack at an Army station in Uri. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had pledged that the attack will not go unpunished.

The details of the strike was announced after PM Modi called an urgent meeting of the country’s top ministers to review security. The Cabinet Committee on Security includes the Defence, Home and Foreign Ministers.
