Rajiv Gandhi case convict attacked in Vellore jail
One of the seven convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case was attacked by an another inmates inside Vellore’s high security central prison on Tuesday.
The convict AG Peralivalan, media reports said, was attacked on Tuesday by another inmate, who is identified as Rajesh.
Jail authorities have, however, declined to spell out details of the incident, including the reason for the attack, maintaining that an inquiry by prison authorities was on.
Police said the victim, Perarivalan, is being given treatment at the prison hospital.
On May 21, 1991, Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber at nearby Sriperumbudur.
Seven persons– Murugan, Santhan, Perarivalan, Nalini, Robert Payas, Jayakumar and Ravichandran, were convicted in the case.
