Giving a hint of `all is well’ in the party, Senior Samajwadi Party leader Prof Ram Gopal Yadav threw his weight behind Akhilesh Yadav saying the party leadership made a mistake by stripping him of the post of state president “without taking him into confidence.”
“There was a minor mistake from leadership … had Akhilesh been informed about his removal there would not have been any crisis. Leadership made a mistake of not taking Akhilesh into confidence. One small mistake has landed the party in this situation,” Prof Yadav told a group of select journalists here on Thursday.
He said if Akhilesh was asked to step down, he would have done that. No one disobeys Netaji. He should have been asked to concentrate on CM’s job and hand over the party post to Shivpal and Akhilesh would have agreed.
He sounded confident that the issue would be resolved once Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh talk to each other.
“There is no crisis (in the party)… the crisis is in your mind. Let Netaji come and everything will be sorted out,” he said and added: “One letter created this crisis. Akhilesh acted in a jiffy and took a very strong step. I can say everything has been sorted out.”
Incidentally, the sack letter was signed by Prof Ram Gopal Yadav himself. “I was asked by Netaji to replace Akhilesh with Shivpal as state president. He was angry. I did not have the courage to question him. There was no time to seek any clarification, he added.
“I did what I was asked to do. Before that, I spoke to Akhilesh. He informed me that Netaji had called him too and had rebuked him. Akhilesh said if I have been asked to issue a sack letter he should issue that,” Prof Yadav said.
He said every action has its reaction. Stripping Shivpal of portfolios was Akhilesh’s answer of removing him from the post of state president.
Asked about the people who brainwashed Netaji, he said: ”There are some people who take advantage of Netaji’s humbleness. They are not concerned about party’s welfare. They always try to damage the party, he pointed out without taking Amar Singh’s name.
On his meeting with Akhilesh Yadav, Prof. Yadav said: “I can only say that he is not angry. He, too, now feels that what has happened is not good for the party and is confident that the issue will be sorted out at the earliest.”
Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav had rushed to Lucknow this morning on the direction of party president Mulayam Singh Yadav. On Wednesday he had a meeting with Mulayam in Delhi and then he was asked to go to Lucknow to douse the family fire that singes political prospect of SP in this election year.
The dispute started after Akhilesh sacked two ministers Gayatri Prasad Prajapati and Raj Kishore Singh on Monday last and later he removed chief secretary Deepak Singhal on the next day. However, on the same day, Mulayam removed Akhilesh from the post of state president of the party, which he was holding since June 2009 and appointed his younger brother Shivpal to the post. Akhilesh, then, divested his uncle of all important departments.
