Visaranai selected as India’s official entry to Oscars 2017
Award-winning Tamil movie Visaranai has been selected as the official entry to Oscars 2017 in the Foreign Language Film category.
According to the secretary-general of Film Federation of India, Supran Sen, the film was picked out of 29 movies including Udta Punjab, Umrika, Thithi, Sairat, Neerja, Dhanak, and Nil Battey Sannata.
Directed by Vetrimaran, the movie Visaranai has already bagged many credits including three National Film awards. The awards included best feature film in Tamil, best supporting actor and best editing.

The movie already received recognition in several foreign festivals, even before its theatrical release.
The movie was also screened at the 72nd Venice Film Festival, where it won the Amnesty International Italia Award.
The director told media about his joy on being chosen to represent at the Oscar’s in the Foreign Language Film category.
Visaranai being produced by Wunderbar Productions owned by Dhanush, is based popular Tamil writer M. Chandrakumar’s novel ‘Lock Up’.

The movie dwells on the shattered lives of four Tamil youth living in Andhra Pradesh. They suffer police brutality and finally become scapegoats in present-day corrupt system. The director said, it a socially relevant film and was well received by the film buffs.The critically-acclaimed film features Attakathi Dinesh in the lead role.
Previously, movies like Jeans, Indian, Kurithipunal, Devar Magan, Anjali, Nayagan, Deiva Magan were nominated for the Oscar from Kollywood.
In this year, India had nominated Marathi film Court as the official entry for Oscars. The 89th Academy Awards event is scheduled to take place in February next year in Los Angeles.
