Eight members of the banned Students of Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) who escaped late on Sunday night from the Bhopal Central jail after murdering a security guard have been killed in an encounter at Eintkhedi village in Bhopal, reports ANI.

Police sources have revealed that for some unknown reasons the escapees didn’t split up so that police were able to track them quickly.

To escape from the prison, they used a rope made out of bed sheets to climb the wall of the jail around 3-4 am in the morning. They also ripped a guard’s throat using a steel plate and glass during the escapade. Police is facing criticism as it loosened the security measures during Diwali and didn’t give special surveillance on the terrorist prisoners.

The police responded to the situation with maximum effectiveness and cordoned off the entire city to catch the fled militants.

The terrorists have been identified as Mujib Shekh, Majid, Aqueel, Khalid, Jakir, Mehboob Shekh, Amjad and Md Shalik. The SIMI is a banned Islamist fundamentalist organisation that was formed in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, in April 1977.
