A True human being can’t turn a blind eye to the sufferings of others: Interview with Balasubrahmaniam Velayutham

Dr Abdul Kalam's life and his teachings have given me immense inspiration to be a socially responsible man. I am fortunate to have great gurus from whom I learned the art of finding happiness in doing service to the society.

Balasubrahmaniam Velayutham needs no introduction among the Indian community in Abu Dhabi. He has always been on the forefront of all the activities organised for the welfare of his fellow countrymen both in the UAE and India. His participation in the rescue operations during last year’s Chennai flood was truly remarkable. Although being a businessman by profession, he keeps an ardent love for music and art. So he is so keen in fostering good artists from all spectra including cinema, music, dance, and so on. Balasubrahmaniam has opened up his mind to Narada News about his life, inspirations and dreams.

Could you give a brief description about your business and yourself?

Our Company Ferropan Oilfield Services & Supplies L.L.C is one of the leading EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction ) Company in the UAE which provides services to most of the ADNOC group of companies. After completing my master degree in engineering, I started working with Madras Fertilisers, India. I also worked with SABIC , Saudi Arabia; and ADNOC, Abu Dhabi before I started my own venture.
I am married to Aruna Shanthi and blessed with two daughters and grandchildren. Thanks to the UAE government both daughters studied up to 12th standard in Abu Dhabi and later moved to India. One of them became an Engineer and another one, a Doctor.

Being a successful businessman with a hell of a lot of responsibilities, how could you find time for family and friends?

Yes, it is a challenge. However, thanks to the latest communication and travel facilities, we could manage both business and family by taking short breaks. I never mix up office work with family. I believe in my subordinates and delegate work to them  to avoid missing the precious family time. I always try to spend weekends with my family and get time for my other social activities.

You are well known as a community person and also very generous. Has anyone inspired you to be so?

Dr Abdul Kalam’s life and his teachings have given me immense inspiration to be a socially responsible man. I am fortunate to have great gurus from whom I learned the art of finding happiness in doing service to the society.

Who is your role model in your life?

My Father in law. Even at an age of 82, he is managing his business in India, doing social services, and travelling a lot to reach people.

As an India residing outside the country, What is your Diwali message for our readers?

First and foremost, I wish to thank our UAE President , Vice President and ministry for their support to our Indian community for celebrating all our Festival including Diwali in a grand manner. For last 20 years, we have never felt that we are in a foreign land and missing our festivals’ enthusiasm and spirit. We wish everyone a prosperous and happy Diwali. Let Almighty bless everyone with good health and fulfil their ambitions. Let the Festival of light bring brightness to one and all.
