AirVistara apologises to Rio Paralympics winner Deepa Malik over mistreatment by staff

After making India proud at the Rio Olympics in Paralympic Games by clinching silver medal, Deepa Malik was heartbroken when she faced mistreatment from a cabin crew of Vistara airlines.

Malik said, she was shocked about the “poor handling” of wheelchair-bound passengers by the staff of Mumbai-Delhi flight UK 902 of the airline.

Malik said she has given a written complaint to Vistara about the rude behaviour from a staff, when she was speaking to her mother on mobile that her flight has been cancelled.

“Crew member Priyanka was very rude in the flight. She told me to speak softly when I called parents to inform them about the delay in flight,” Deepa wrote in her complaint.

“On objecting, she said ‘sweetheart, chill’,” Malik wrote, adding that the airline’s wheelchair handling was so poor that they didn’t know how to shift a person from the seat to cabin chair, ” she further added in her statement.

“The entire staff stands and looks at each other for 10 minutes. No action,” Deepa narrated the ordeal of the disabled persons.

Soon after the incident, she shared pics about the incident in social media, which have gone viral now.

Vistara apologised to the athlete on social media over the incident. Officials said they had ordered an inquiry and assured necessary action would be taken against those staff who misbehaved with the athlete.

“As a team, we would like to sincerely apologise to Deepa for her disappointing experience. We have been in touch with Deepa and are grateful for the feedback shared by her. We are investigating the incident thoroughly and will take all necessary corrective actions to ensure something like this never occurs again,” Vistara stated in its apology letter shared on social media.

Meanwhile Deepa said she was happy that Vistara reacted quickly and took action after coming to know about her grievances.
