Amidst Yadav feud, Yadav clan set to miss Diwali in Saifai this year
This Deepawali would be different for the largest political family in India. Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and several other family members are likely to skip Deepawali festivities this time at their native Saifai in Etawah. This will happen for the first time in several decades.
The SP chief’s residence in Etawah was recently reconstructed after razing the old building. While the new building has been decorated, it will miss the occupants this year.
SP sources said that Mulayam Singh’s cousin and recently expelled SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav along with his son and Ferozabad MP Akshay Yadav and other family members reached Etawah on Friday and were expected to stay there for the next five days.
The CM was expected to reach Etawah on Friday but is likely to skip his hometown as he is busy preparing for Vikas Rath Yatra, proposed to take off from Lucknow on November 3. Shivpal Yadav, presently in Delhi for holding talks with leaders of different parties like Rashtriya Lok Dal, Janata Dal (United) and others for cobbling up a grand alliance in UP, is also likely to stay away from Etawah this Deepawali.
An SP leader said that Shivpal has nothing much left to celebrate during the festival this year after being recently dismissed from the cabinet with his brother and SP chief declining to bail him out.
The SP first family headed by patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav used to gather in Sefai every year during Holi and Deepawali to celebrate the festivals together for the last several decades. This time, it’s different with ties between Mulayam Singh and Ram Gopal Yadav touching a new low following Ram Gopal’s expulsion from the party.
So is the relation between Shivpal and his nephew Akhilesh Yadav, who not only traded charges on the party forum but didn’t mind engaging in a scuffle on the dais during party legislators’ meet in Lucknow on October 24.
A close family associate and Pradhan of Saifai Darshan Singh Yadav said that it is unfortunate that the family would break the decades-old tradition that started in 1989 when Mulayam became CM for the first time.
Even after Akhilesh became CM in 2012, the family used to reach Saifai a day before the festivities and celebrated it together. Though Shivpal and Ram Gopal have their separate houses in Etawah, the celebrations have always been together.
Another close family associate Dr. Akshya Yadav of Saifai Medical University said, “The situation is different this time after Ram Gopal was sacked from the party and Shivpal from the government. Hence, the family is almost on the verge of a split.
