Bihar topper scam: Examination Board cancels recognition of 68 inter-colleges, 19 schools
The toppers scam surfaced in the state in July this year after Ruby Rai, who was declared topper in arts earlier, failed to answer basic questions on her subjects to a news channel
The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) on Tuesday reportedly cancelled the affiliation of 68 scam-tainted inter-colleges and 19 schools in a bid to bring back the credibility of exams.
The toppers’ scam surfaced in the state in July this year after Ruby Rai, who was declared topper in arts earlier, failed to answer basic questions on her subjects to a news channel.
After the scam surfaced, the results of Rai and that of Saurabh Kumar, Science topper in the state’s Plus 2 examination this year, were cancelled after they failed to prove their performance in a retest. Ruby Rai was later arrested by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Bihar Police.
In the latest development, the showcause notices had been issued to schools and collages after an inquiry committee submitted its report.
Anand Kishore, Chairman of BSEB was quoted in media reports as saying: "As part of the clean up process within the BSEB, we have cancelled affiliation of 68 inter colleges and 19 schools. More action will happen in days to come."
As part of the investigation, the authorities had cancelled the affiliation173 schools earlier.
Investigating authorities have arrested several other people regarding the case including ex-BSEB Chairman Lalkeshwar Singh, his wife Usha Singh, a former JD(U) MLA and a college principal Bachcha Rai, media reports stated.
A recent report submitted by Forensic Science Laboratory stated that Ruby Rai did not write the answer sheets on her own. The probe team said the answer sheets of Rubi Rai were written by ‘experts’.
According to the report of the forensic science laboratory (FSL), the handwriting on the answer sheets of Rai, who had pronounced political science as “prodigal science”, were not hers, but of the experts who wrote for her.
