Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and BJP president Amit Shah on Wednesday visited the Apollo Hospitals in Chennai to personally inquire about Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s health condition. They spent about 30 minutes in the hospital.
Earlier, the two leaders were received by a host of their party colleagues and officials from Tamil Nadu at the Chennai airport.
After enquiring about the treatment given to Ms. Jayalalithaa, the two left the premises without speaking to the media.

Due to uncertainty about how long she will take to recover, Jayalalitha handed over her portfolios to Finance Minister O.Panneerselvam. She did the same when she was arrrested on corruption charges two years ago. Opposition party DMK had been demanding an interim Chief Minister in the state so as not to compromise on the state’s welfare.
Ever since Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo hospital, leaders including Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, BJP Leader Venkaiah Naidu, Governor P Sathasivam, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, CPI Leader D Raja visited the hospital.Opposition leaders like DMK Leader of Opposition M K Stalin, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President Su Thirunavukkarasar, CPI(M) Leader G Ramakrishnan and CPI Leader D Pandian also paid a visit.
Jayalalithaa, 68, was admitted to the hospital on 22 September after she complained of fever and dehydration.
