Explosion in Chandni Chowk kills one and injures several

Police are yet to ascertain the cause of the blast and reports claim that they also suspect terror links behind it.

An explosion at Naya Bazar near Chandni Chowk left one person dead and five injured in Delhi today morning.

According to the reports in Times of India the initial investigations suggest the cause of blast as of a cracker burst. A number of explosive materials, crackers were recovered at the site.

Window panes of the surrounding buildings were damaged due to the blast. The deceased person’s identity is yet to be confirmed.

Police are yet to ascertain the cause of the blast and reports claim that they also suspect terror links behind it.

NDTV reports claim that the explosion happened due to cylinder blast in the wholesale market. Other reports say the explosion occurred from explosive materials carried by a man. The person who killed was carrying the crackers.

Forensic teams and officers from the Special Cell are on the site collecting samples

The police and the fire department were informed of the blast around 10.45 am. The industrial area was tightly packed with people making Diwali purchases.

Several police teams, fire officials and many fire tenders were sent to the spot immediately. Police teams are led by DCP Madhur Verma.

 

 Anti- terror wing and the Special Cell have also reached the spot and started the probe. Authorities are now trying to keep a tight vigil on the incident because of the festive season ahead. The blast may create a panic among the residents of Delhi who are all set to celebrate Diwali this week
