ISL 2016: FC Pune City and Kerala Blasters play out 1-1 draw
In the sixteenth match of Indian Super League (ISL) on Monday, hosts FC Pune City were held to a 1-1 draw by visitors Kerala Blasters, extending Pune’s wait for a home match win.
Kerala Blasters were leading the first half as French defender Cedric Hengbart scored the fastest goal of the third edition of ISL yesterday. But the men of Pune fought back in the second half as Captain Mohamed Sissoko’s equalised the score in 68th minute, ensuring a single point for the hosts.
Yesterday’s was the third match that has ended in a 1-1 score in this season and the draw put Kerala Blasters in fifth place with five points from five games. FC Pune City has four points from as many matches and stay at the seventh spot on table.
Witnessing almost 9,000 fans at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium in Balewadi, Kerala’s French centre-back Cedric Hengbart scored in the third minute of the match after Pune failed to clear an Azrack Mahamat shot on goal. It was the French players’ first goal in the third season of Hero ISL.
Key player Mehtab Hossain came close to making it 2-goal lead for the Blasters later in the first half, but the shot went inches wide of goal. In the second half, another chance for goal was made by Mohammed Rafi, but Gouramangi Singh blocked Rafi’s shot on goal.
The lack of co-ordination and players trying shots from improbable angles slowed Pune’s hunt for an equaliser. Pune`s first chance came in the 15th minute but Tato shot the ball wide, while Traore missed another opportunity in the 40th minute after Tato gave the ball from the right, but the header went wide.
After several efforts, Pune got their equaliser in the 68th minute after a shot of their marquee player gave Nandy no chance in goal.
FC Pune’s next match is against Chennaiyin FC on Sunday, while Kerala Blasters will meet FC Goa on Monday at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa.
