J&K: Soldier, woman killed in Pak ceasefire violation
Violating ceasefire across the de-facto border in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan Rangers have killed an Indian soldier and a woman on Monday, media reports said.
According to reports, a police spokesperson said that two more soldiers and another civilian were injured in the latest violation by the Pakistan Army of the 2003 ceasefire agreement to maintain peace at borders and along the Line of Control (LoC).
The deceased woman has been identfied as Rubina Kausar, 50, however, the identity of the slain soldier was not known immediately, according to a report in IANS.
The spokesperson added that the fresh cross-border firing incidents occurred in Rajouri and Poonch districts on the LoC that divides Jammu and Kashmir between the two countries.
The official said the Pakistan Army used 82 mm mortar shells and automatic weapons to target Indian positions on the LoC and the soldier and the woman were killed in the Tarkundi sector of Rajouri.
The Indian Army retaliated to the firing “effectively”, said the spokesman.
Indian Army had carried out a surgical strikes in September destroying seven terror launch pads and killed an unknown number of terrorists and their sympathisers in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, across the LoC.
The operation was launched in retaliation of the Uri attack, in which 19 soldiers were killed by Pakistani terrorist. Earlier on Monday, Pakistan Rangers indulged in shelling and firing on the International Border (IB) in R.S.Pura, Suchetgarh and Hira Nagar sectors of Jammu division.
“Pakistan Rangers fired mortars and used automatic weapons to target civilian and Border Security Force (BSF) facilities in R.S.Pura, Suchetgarh and Hira Nagar sectors,” another police officer said.
Media report added that the Pakistani forces pounded BSF posts and civilian areas using small arms and mortars shells in continuous ceasefire violations along the International Border (IB) in Samba, Kathua and Jammu districts, prompting BSF to retaliate.
On Friday, a girl was also injured when Pakistani troops the ceasefire violations with firing and mortar shelling on Indian posts and civilian areas along the LoC and international border in Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri districts.
