Manipuri student found dead in JNU hostel
His body was found when stench started coming from the room and the students called in the security, said a police officer
A student was found dead in the hostel of Delhi's prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University on Tuesday evening. The student as been identified as JR Philemon Chiru and his family lives in Manipur’s Senapati district, police told The Times of India.
According to reports, Philemon had locked himself up in the hostel room for the past three days and no one in the campus had seen him around. His body was found when stench started coming from the room and the students called in the security, said a police officer.
Some students noticed a foul smell coming from his room, and when they checked under his door, saw him lying face down, Indian Express reported. Security officials at the hostel then broke open the door to find Chiru's body.
His body was then taken to AIIMS for a postmortem. While the cause of death hasn't been established yet, the police have launched a formal investigation in the case.
JNU has been witnessing huge protests since October 15 when another student, Najeeb Ahmed, had gone missing following a brawl in his hostel.
