Maya hits out at Parrikar for linking surgical attack with RSS teaching
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati lambasted Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar for claiming that the surgical strike against the terror camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir was due to the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) teaching.
She claimed that the remarks amount to degrading the country’s armed forces.
“Such statements demoralise the Army, besides it is an insult to the soldiers, who are sacrificing their lives for the country,” asserted Mayawati while reacting to Parrikar’s statement. In an official communiqué released here on Tuesday afternoon, Mayawati said such statements show the frustration of BJP and their leaders, who were trying to gain politically through this surgical strike.
“Everyone in the country knows about the activities of RSS and their nefarious motive to divide the society. Statements like these by the Defence Minister prove that they are now trying to politicise the actions of the Army, which is highly condemnable,” she added.
“It is wrong on the part of the prime minister and defence minister to take credit for surgical strikes and take political mileage in the coming polls,” she further alleged. “Though the RSS claims to be a cultural organisation, its activities showed that they always worked with political motives, with a particular mentality in favour of a political party… its people are now present in the BJP and government,” she said.
Parrikar said in Ahmedabad on Monday, “I wonder, with the combination of the Prime Minister, who comes from Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s home state, and I, Defence Minister, coming from Goa, which never had any martial race and surgical strikes. Maybe the RSS teaching was at the core, but this was quite a different kind of combination”.
