SP family matters: Mulayam reminds son Akhilesh of his ‘aukat’, while backing Shivpal Yadav
A meeting called by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav to broker peace in the high-profile family drama ended in a spat between son and father with Akhilesh charging Mulayam of openly siding with leaders like Amar Singh and Gayatri Prajapati.
“It was a complete chaos. As soon as the meeting ended, Shivpal Singh Yadav took charge of one mike and Akhilesh got control of another throwing charges at each other. Mulayam was sitting in between as a mute spectator. It is unfortunate what happened today,” a senior legislator told this reporter.
“Yes, this can be said that Mulayam has failed to bring about the truce. It is unfortunate, but true,” he said. The meeting of legislators, MPs, and senior party leaders was reduced into a to show strength by Shivpal Singh Yadav and Akhilesh. Supporters of both these leaders shouted slogans against each other. But supporters of Akhilesh outnumbered Shivpal Singh’s supporters and at one time they booed the state party president. Mulayam Singh admonished them and said ‘raising slogans will not take them anywhere’. He even took a jibe at Akhilesh, saying: “You have lost cool after getting power. Apni aukat na bhulna,” he said.
What further fueled the fire was Mulayam’s praise for Amar Singh and Gayatri Prajapati even as he defended the alliance with mafia don Mukhtar Ansari’s party Quami Ekta Dal. All of this happened not before Shivpal revealed that Akhilesh had told him that he would form a new party and Akhilesh, in his turn, had offered to resign from the post. During his emotional speech, Akhilesh said: “Netaji is my guru and if he wants to remove me then I am ready to quit.”
“Agar Netaji ya party ke khilaaf koi saazish ho rahi hai to mai uspar kaarwaahi karunga,” he said while defending his action against the four ministers including his uncle, Shivpal Singh Yadav. Akhilesh said some people were trying to create a dispute within the family and were conspiring to break the party. “I have to stand up against the conspiracy and I have done without thinking of the consequences. You have taught me to stand up against any wrong thing,” he added.
He also defended Ram Gopal Yadav saying that his action against the ministers was not on his suggestion.” I have taken the decision on my own as these ministers were creating disturbances,” he added.
“This party belongs to Netaji. If Netaji asks me to step down, I will not think twice,” he asserted.
Shivpal Singh Yadav, in his speech, attacked Akhilesh Yadav and disclosed that he (Akhilesh) had informed him that he was going to form a party and would contest the election in alliance with other political parties. “I can say this by taking Ganga Jal in my hand that Akhilesh said to me that he would form a party and contest the election in alliance with some other political outfit,” he said.
He also defended Amar Singh, saying that his contribution to the party was enough and he was not at all involved in any conspiracy. “People who work to weaken the SP and who are working against us, they should know we will form government again with Netaji’s ideology. But on the other hand, we can not tolerate liars in the SP, we just can’t,” he openly remarked hitting out at Ram Gopal Yadav.
Claiming that he has no dispute with the CM, he said ,”I was upset when the CM took my departments, but even after several insults, I have never disobeyed any directive of the CM. When Netaji took the state president post from me, I did not object or said a word.” Shivpal also narrated how he worked and cycled all the way for campaigning and to strengthen the party in the past. Besides, he also remembered the Emergency days when he was in jail.
The SP state president also clarified that this meeting was convened just for two reasons: first the foundation day function of November 5 and secondly, for deliberating on 2017 Assembly elections.”But a conspiracy was hatched and it was circulated that the meeting was called to dethrone Akhilesh, which is totally wrong,” he added.
Earlier in the day, clashes broke out between Akhilesh Yadav and Shivpal Singh Yadav groups outside the party office. Police had to intervene and use mild force against the warring groups.
Meanwhile , the man in the eye of the storm Amar Singh has fled to Kolkata. He refused to answer questions on his arrival at the airport to the media about the big crisis in the Samajwadi Party.
