Visibly aggrieved with the arrest of his maternal grandson under draconian prohibition law, Jitan Ram Manjhi, former chief minister of Bihar and national chief of Hindustani Awam Party (HAM), has made a scathing attack on Nitish Kumar, chief minister, alleging “he has hatched a conspiracy to send me and my entire relatives inside prison by imposing false cases of liquor consumption”.
Reacting to the arresting of his close relative, Vicky Manjhi by police yesterday, the former chief minister said, “He was coming back to home from Jharkhand. At the saying of Nitish Kumar, the police managed to drop 12 bottles of liquor inside his vehicle and arrested him.” He also alleged that in days to come he and his family members would be facing more such troubles to be created by Nitish Kumar since “ I am exposing him on all fronts”.
He further said that the state would be facing financial loss of Rs 5,000 crore per year due to ban on liquor business. “ But on the other hand, the bootleggers are doing brisk business under the protection of Nitish Kumar because they pay heavy amounts as cuts to his devotees”, he said and added, “I am not opposed to the ban but the draconian provisions envisaged in the law.”
