Pakistan bans Indian channels, after LoC operation by Indian Army
In the wake of high-intensity border tensions with India, Pakistan banned all Indian channels on Saturday.Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA), issued a notification on Saturday saying that broadcasting any Indian channels is illegal now in Pakistan.
PEMRA also announced strict punishments against those who defy the ban and transmit any Indian media content.
It has given a deadline to media houses to rid of all Indian content until October 15.
The decision is widely seen as Pakistan’s reaction to Indian army’s recent surgical strike on terrorist camps across LoC.
As per media reports, the PEMRA has said, it took the decision after receiving complaints from citizens on illegal Indian media content in Pakistan.
The Authority has termed the content as anti-Pakistan and propagandist. Pakistani media said, the decision came after recent ban by India’s producers’ association on artists from Pakistan and popular Zee network’s decision to stop all Pakistani TV shows and serials.
Bollywood mega star Salman Khan has come under attack from India’s right wing party Shiv Sena for his comments on Pakistani artists on Friday.
Salman Khan said, politics and art should not be mixed and Pakistani artists are not terrorists.
