Rahul accuses Modi of leniency towards tax defaulters
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his claim to have added Rs 60,000 crore worth black money to the national exchequer during a voluntary disclosure drive, but questioned as to why no action was taken against the offenders.
At a road show at Moradabad and Amroha during the second leg of the ‘Deoria to Dilli Kisan Yatra,’ the Congress leader said, “If the common people had this black money, then you would have been in jail by now. But the people, who disclosed and deposited black money, are influential and hence they were not put in jail.”
Rahul went to the extent of charging that Modi, as Chief Minister of Gujarat, had grabbed public land worth several crore rupees and was now claiming himself to be the messiah of `anti-corruption’ drive.
Ridiculing the PM’s cleanliness drive, Rahul said, “For the last two years, Modiji has been wielding a broom on October 2 and get his pictures clicked. But he holds the broom upside down. Is this how India will be cleaned ? (do saal se do October pe jhadoo pakad ke photo kheenchaate hain. Aap photo mein dekh sakte hain, jhadoo bhi ulti pakadte hain. Usse Kya Hindustan ka Sudhar hogaya?)
The Congress vice-president accused Modi of working for a handful of affluent people and advised him to be the PM of the entire country and not just for 15 people. “Modiji had said that ‘acche din’ were on its way. But he failed to specify for whom. It seems that the ‘acche din’ is for 10 to 15 people of the country,” Rahul charged.
“The PM should focus on work rather than deliver long speeches. We promised a pay hike to government employees by implementing the Sixth Pay Commission and we did it quietly,” he claimed.
“I can promise to the Indian people that Rahul Gandhi and the Congress will stand by your side every time the BJP instigates a fight among you all. The sole agenda of the BJP-RSS combine is to divide the people into communal lines and capitalise on it during polls,” he charged.
Rahul reiterated his commitment to continue his fight for the backward, poor, farmers and downtrodden sections which as per him, were the worst sufferers of the Modi government’s `cache din’.
Earlier, the Moradabad administration changed the scheduled route of Rahul’s road show citing security reasons on Monday morning leading to protest from local Congress leaders, which was later sorted out.
