Tamil Nadu Cabinet meets without CM Jayalalithaa
The cabinet of Tamil Nadu met on Wednesday for the first time since the hospitalisation of chief minister J Jayalalithaa.
The meeting was chaired by finance minister O Panneerselvam. Tamil Nadu governor C Vidyasagar Rao had earlier allocated all the portfolios of chief minister J Jayalalithaa to Panneerselvam as doctors suggested her longer stay in the hospital.
Media reports stated the Cabinet is understood to have discussed several issues including Cauvery water dispute. However, the government did not release details of the agenda of the meeting.
Meanwhile, the government officials released photographs of cabinet meeting, where Panneerselvam was seen seated with an image of chief minister placed on his desk.

The office of the TN Governor last week announced that Finance Minister Paneerselvam will preside over cabinet meetings, saying “this arrangement has been made as per the advice of the chief minister and will continue until Jayalalithaa resumes her duties.”
Earlier, O Panneerselvam led the TN government when Jayalalithaa was arrested in connection with a disproportionate assets case two years ago. Jayalalithaa chaired the last cabinet meeting in July that discussed the state budget.
The Chief Minister was admitted to the Apollo hospitals on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration.
Strengthening rumours over her health condition, no medical bulletin has been issued by hospital authorities for the last nine days. In the last medical bulletin issued by Apollo Hospitals on 10th October, the hospital said she is under constantly monitored by intensivists and other consultants.
Tamil superstar Rajinikanth visited Apollo Hospital on Sunday and his official twitter handle later said: “I pray to God for your speedy recovery.”
