As the news of Times Now Editor-in-chief, Arnab Goswami receiving ‘Y’ category of security hit the stands yesterday, social media went abuzz with ‘#TommyGetsSecurity’.

According to the media reports, Arnab Goswami would now be provided ‘Y’ category security cover by the government, on the basis of threat from “Pakistan-based terrorist groups”.  Under ‘Y’ category, around 20 guards will be deployed for round-the-clock protection of Goswami, including two personal security officers for close proximity security.

“Goswami is being given security on the basis of a threat-perception analysis by the IB. We will go by the IB recommendation. He faces threats from Pakistan-based terrorist groups due to his comments against them on Times Now,” a home ministry official told Hindustan Times, who spoke on the condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

There have been no comments from Goswami, even after several attempts by media, but ex-Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju took it on Facebook to express his displeasure saying, “It will be the government, which really means the public, because these salaries come from the taxes we pay. So we will have to pay for Arnab’s security.” He went on to take a jibe of government, saying “I believe some other mediapersons who toe the govt.line have also been provided similar security by the Govt. “

Social media has been going frenzy with the security cover, also bringing in Barkha Dutt, NDTV reporter, to the trolls.
