The 49-year-old singer and actress, Toni Braxton revealed on Monday that she spent her time in hospital after suffering from a lupus flare-up. Her representative gave a statement that, “Toni is resting at home and she is fine.”
While she was in hospital, People reported that the singer had complications from lupus. While TMZ reported that Bryan “Birdman” Williams, her boyfriend, 47, was by her side. However, Braxton’s rep disagreed about the severity of those reports.
Braxton’s rep revealed, “She was in an LA hospital for a few days for being treated for her Lupus. She has been released and starts rehearsals for her upcoming tour this week. She was not in serious condition, though Lupus is a serious disease and must be monitored at all times.”
In a 2010 interview, Braxton first revealed that she suffered from systemic lupus erythematosus. It is an autoimmune disease. In 2012, the singer was then hospitalized with the disease. In 2014, in her memoir- Unbreak My Heart: A Memoir, she wrote about her lupus diagnosis including that her uncle had passed away from the same disease.
In a 2015 interview, Braxton spoke about her lupus struggle with Huffington Post, “Some days I can’t balance it all. I just have to lay in bed,” she told. “Pretty much when you have lupus you feel like you have the flu every day. But some days you get through it. But for me, if I’m not feeling well, I tend to tell my kids, ‘Oh mommy’s just going to relax in bed today.’ I kind of take it easy.”
When Braxton has work, she said she must fight the sickness. “That’s the toughest part, when I have to perform. So often, when it’s like that, it’s a lot of, ‘You sing!’ to the audience, you know. They kind of help me out a little bit without realizing it.”
She told her fans that she is sorry about cancelling the show. We are hoping Braxton gets well soon and will be back on shows fit and fine!
