Joining the growing list of US newspapers that are pitching for a vigorous anti-Donald Trump stance, the influential US daily USA Today on Friday came with an endorsement against him.

Breaking its 34-year tradition of no-endorsement policy, USA Today wrote a scathing editorial against the Republican nominee Donald Trump. The editorial stated that Trump was “unfit for the presidency”.

“From the day he declared his candidacy 15 months ago through this week’s first presidential debate, Trump has demonstrated repeatedly that he lacks the temperament, knowledge, steadiness and honesty that America needs from its presidents,” observed USA Today.

“Whether through indifference or ignorance, Trump has betrayed fundamental commitments made by all presidents since the end of World War II,” added the editorial.

The newspaper termed him “erratic,” “ill-equipped to be commander-in-chief” and “a serial liar”.

Here is a Twitter post by the newspaper on Trump’s vicious attack on Hillary Clinton.

The Arizona Republic editorial board last Tuesday endorsed Hillary Clinton. It is the first time in its 126-year history, the newspaper has backed a Democrat candidate in US elections.

Dallas Morning News, The Cincinnati Enquirer and The Houston Chronicle — known for their traditional stance — also endorsed Hillary last few months.

While The Enquirer always backed Republican party for over a century, and The Morning News never endorsed a Democrat for nealy seven decades.

The Detroit News has decided to support Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson, marking their tryst with Republicans for last 143 years.

Probably, newspapers are simply following the general consensus among the public following Monday’s first presidential debate that Trump is no match for Hillary. After his primary season, he never got any endorsements from leading newspapers in US.
