Golfer Aditi Ashok, 18, scripted history on Sunday as she became the first Indian woman to win a Ladies European Tour title by clinching the Hero Women’s Indian Open in Gurugram ESPN has reported.
The young golfer from Bengaluru scored a birdie on the final hole to clinch the victory. Ashok had a two-strike overnight lead and shot a level par 72 shot in the final round to go one stroke clear of Brittany Lincicome of the US and Spaniard Belen Mozo who finished tied second. Aditi finished with a total score three-under 213 to win a prize purse of USD 60,000.
“I have had some good finishes in the Indian Open but to get the job done finally feels really good and especially finishing victorious in front of my home crowd is a really good feeling,” she told reporters.
The one-shot victory at the DLF Golf and Country Club gave her a direct entry on the Ladies European Tour (LET) till the end of 2018. The win also makes her a prime contender for the LET’s rookie-of-the-year award, Times of India reported.
