An explosion in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo killed a child and injured 32 Indian peacekeepers on Tuesday. The explosion happened in the city of Goma in eastern Congo.

The peacekeepers were on a run in the western Goma neighbourhood of Keyshero when the blast happened. The cause of the explosion has not figured out yet.

Ismael Salumu, an imam at a nearby mosque told Reuters that three peacekeepers were killed.“We just heard the explosion and the cries. We then ran over to see,” he said.

Congo is infamous for its years-long regional conflicts. Millions lost their lives during the longest of them during 1996-2003. Nearly 18,000 uniformed UN personnel and dozens of armed groups operate here in Congo
