95 Percent Retired soldiers Happy with OROP, says Manohar Parrikar
Central Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said that 95 percent retired soldiers have got their benefits of One Rank One Pension scheme and they are happy with it.
Minister’s statement is amid the political war over the death of retired subedar Ram Kishan Grewal who had committed suicide over the implementation of OROP.
” Rest are very old pensioners, so their records are incomplete. We are in the process of completing the records of these 5 percent, it will be done in the next two months”, Parrikar briefed in a press meeting.
“Only one lakh retired soldiers, out of 20 lakh, are not getting the pension as per OROP scheme due to some technical difficulty or documentation problems. We will resolve these problems within two months”, he added.
Earlier Parrikar had stated that the government is very sensitive to OROP issue as it was not implemented for last 43 years.
