BJP asks leaders to skip the wedding of Janardhana Reddy's daughter
The party gave an informal instruction not to attend the multi-crore wedding as common man is suffering from the demonetisation directive
Bharatiya Janata Party has asked its leaders to skip the wedding of Karnataka mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy's daughter in the wake of demonetisation move when he came under scrutiny of Income Tax department for alleged illegal assets.
The party gave an informal instruction not to attend the multi-crore wedding as common man is suffering from the demonetisation directive.
Many senior leaders including State BJP chief BS Yeddyurappa is likely to attend the wedding.
Opposition party leaders including chief minister Siddaramaiah, former PM H D Deve Gowda and state JD(S) president H D Kumaraswamy is in a dilemma whether to attend the function.
According to Times of India a Congress leader said: “Siddaramaiah had launched a relentless campaign against the mining scam when he was the leader of the opposition and had demanded a CBI probe.What message would he be sending if he attends this marriage?”
Many celebrities including Singer Sonu Nigam will be attending the wedding.
The mining baron's daughter Brahmani is marrying a businessman from Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday at Palace Ground in Bengaluru.
He was arrested in 2012 for illegal mining and corruption charges. Released last year on bail, Reddy is awaiting trial.
Assets worth of Rs 1,200 crore were seized by CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) from Reddy. Last week, a special court in Bengaluru allowed him to leave for his hometown in Bellary to make arrangements for the marriage.
