BJP leaders attend Reddy’s lavish family wedding, reveals political hypocrisy of Modi’s party
As people across India have been stuck in seemingly never-ending queues before banks and ATMs after the BJP-led central government decision to ban high denomination notes, many senior BJP leaders were busy attending the lavish wedding of mining baron Gali Janardhana Reddy’s daughter.
Revealing the political hypocrisy of BJP over black money and corruption, senior BJP leaders including Karnataka state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa, Jagdish Shettar and Renukacharya, among others attended one of the functions at a grand wedding venue.
Amid leaders of BJP pledging to curb black money and end corruption, Janardhana Reddy, former Karnataka Tourism minister in the BJP government, on Wednesday hosted some 50,000 VIP guests, spending over Rs 500 crore on the wedding of his daughter Bramhani.
Janardhan Reddy is out on bail since January 2015 over illegal mining case after spending three years and four months in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Prison.
Reports said Janardhan Reddy had invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the entire Union cabinet and the state cabinet for the wedding.
Meanwhile, reports said state I-T department has started probing Reddy’s source of funds and alleged tax evasion after a complaint was filed by Bengaluru-based senior advocate T Narasimha Murthy.
The petitioner has alleged huge tax evasion on Reddy’s part and requested to know his source of income and how he’s funding the marriage, The Economic Times reported.
Murthy’s complaint read as: “Reddy was released from prison in 2015, after serving a five-year jail sentence in illegal mining cases. Besides expensive cars and choppers, Reddy and his wife Lakshmi Aruna’s immovable assets, worth around Rs 70 crore, have been seized.”
“Still he has managed to invest crores of rupees in his daughter’s wedding. How can this be possible?” it added.
Talking at Parliament Winter Session earlier today, Congress leader Anand Sharma had criticized BJP asking, “BJP leaders go to wedding functions of Janardhan Reddy, and they talk about fighting black money. Why dont you arrest him?”
