Ali Fazal's Hollywood foray creates buzz in Bollywood
Ive heard about the change in perspective. I was surprised when my favourite filmmakers were messaging and tweeting about me, says the actor.
This morning, twitter users in India were in for a little surprise when suddenly they saw Bollywood filmmakers tweeting about actor Ali Fazal.
The actor’s upcoming British-American biographical drama opposite Judi Dench has created a lot of buzz in Bollywood. The film is directed by Stephen Frears and written by Lee Hall.
The film is based on the book of the same name, Victoria and Abdul, by Shrabani Basu.
Speaking to a leading Indian daily, the actor said he was surprised when he saw tweets and messages from his favourite filmmakers. “I’ve heard about the change in perspective. I was surprised when my favourite filmmakers were messaging and tweeting about me,” said the actor.
He also gave his views on why it’s a big deal when Bollywood actors make a debut in the West. “In Bollywood, the film’s stakes are as high as the actor. In Hollywood, they are way above, and the day we realise this in our industry, we will start appreciating actors,” added Fazal.
Fazal is playing the lead role of Abdul Karim. Pictures of the actor shooting in Agra have been released. In the pictures, Fazal is seen sporting a traditional kurta-pajama with a white and red-striped turban. He is also seen holding a golden coloured dabba (tiffin).
Victoria and Abdul is based on an unlikely friendship between Queen Victoria and a young Indian clerk Abdul Karim. The film is slated to release on September 22, 2017.
