Calcutta High Court slams govt on demonetisation
The Calcutta High Court on Friday asked the Centre to submit a report on the demonetisation of Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes.
Calcutta HC said we cannot change Government policy but lack of sincerity of bank employees is there. It added, Centre has not applied its mind properly, everyday they are changing procedures, which means there was no homework.
It asked the government to send it in by November 25.
The Centre had yesterday approached the Supreme Court asking it to move all such cases against the demonetisation of old notes to the apex court itself.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had rejected a petition seeking to stay the demonetisation. The Madras High Court did the same as well to a different petition.
West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has been ardent critic of government’s demonetisation move and has already led two rallies against the move in the national capital in past few days.
