About 470 bank employees will not be at their office seats till Monday. They will instead be busy at the federation meet, which on Saturday. It is the timing of the event which stirred a political storm but the BEFI office-bearers have said the conference was planned much earlier.
BJP state secretary K Surendran first raised the issue, urging the bank employees to post pone the event. He later got a supporter in former chief minister Oommen Chandy. Meanwhile, CPI M leader Elamaram Kareem who inaugurated the meet said the bank employees cannot be blamed for the trouble caused to the people by the BJP Government.
BEFI general secretary C J Nandakumar said that the conference will not affect the day-to-day functioning of the banksas the higher bank officials are keeping away from the meet and those who are raising allegations are not aware of the fact. He also said not all delegates are participating in the meet to avoid any difficult situation and that in case of any emergency, banks can call back their employees at any time.
